Hi all! I'm known around the internet as Sun Fin. I've found my way here through the invite of Ansgar Thegn who I have been on a few forums with over the years. I'm a Brit, living in London. I've got a degree in Church History and Theology, and am currently at a theological college training to be a vicar. Despite having a degree in Church History, my primary historical interest is actually in an obscure period of Chinese history, known as the Three Kingdoms. I guess Ansgar might have mentioned it once or twice? I also enjoy British history - however I wouldn't say I'm an expert in any period. Like most people of my age, I found my school only wanted to teach history that has happened since 1914, which I never found interested me especially. As a result I normally only start learning about a period after an author I like writes a novel or two about it! Bernward Cornwall is my favourite author but I also enjoy CJ Sansom, Simon Scarrow and Conn Iggulden. You might be able to guess what periods have piqued my interest from that list? Anyway, I'm looking forward to getting to know you all! I don't know active I'll be but I'll try and check in fairly regularly.

Welcome Sun Fin, I look forward to discussing historical and theological stuff with you. We've so many beautiful churches in England, in fact I'm not sure if the CofE even know where they all are. There was/is a programme in effect to find all the old ruins iirc. It also means I can say 'more tea vicar?' and actually have a vicar friend to say it to. By the way, a while ago someone I know went out partying as a Catholic priest. Would that be considered as a really bad sin? He didn't do anything too naughty, just blessed the DJ and stuff... He also says he'll never do it again cos he's a bit older and wiser now.

Thank you for your welcome, both of you!
We do have some great historic buildings - speaking as someone who wants to use them as functioning churches that can be frustrating at times though! For example old churches weren't designed with toilets but modern day people expect them. Trying to get planning permission can be... challenging! I do find the history of the Anglican church increasingly fascinating though, would love to have opportunities to discuss that further. I'm especially finding Thomas Cromwell a really intriguing figure. I must be the only trainee vicar who doesn't like tea...
The Catholic church might take a more serious view of it, but as a protestant it doesn't particularly bother me.

Thanks Windischer, I'm sure I will!
I guess something else I could mention - I'm learning ancient Greek and Hebrew so if you've got any questions about translations of old sources I'm happy to take a look - no promises I'll actually be able to answer complex questions though!

Rochester cathedral is good for church history as it has a range of different architectural styles from Saxon to Norman. Thanks for the heads up, I'll let Von know everything's ok. Who's the chap in your avatar btw?

Glad to have you here mate. Looks like you've already gotten settled in nicely. Thanks for the heads up, I'll let Von know everything's ok. Who's the chap in your avatar btw? That's a Created Officer Portrait from the video game Romance of the Three Kingdoms. If you watch my YouTube Let's Play (you can go to my YouTube channel from my profile), Mr. Fin here is represented in that playthrough as a created officer named Gao Feng.

Thanks for the welcome Comet and Ansgar Thegn. I swear you've had a different name on every site you frequent! Do you not like having a consistent online identity? I thought tea was a standard requirement on entry? Perhaps coffee is more your thing? Who's the chap in your avatar btw? I don't really do hot drinks at all! Very occasionally I have a mint tea, but I'm a soft drink and alcohol kinda guy. Make of that what you will
