Hello all!
It's been a few months since we've founded THR. Though it languished in relative disuse for the last quarter of 2019, I have high hopes that, in 2020, we'll get a lot more users, better discussion, and overall, some really great engagement. Or, one can hope... One of our aims in establishing THR is to not only foster an environment that is encouraging and scholarly, but also to forge a strong community with a real sense of camaraderie. While some people may balk at the idea, I think it's the glue for any successful internet forum. That being said, one important part of forging real connections is to know about the other person. This isn't the introduction thread, per se (you can find that here!), but it is a thread where you can introduce your interests. I may toy around with the idea of connecting users with similar interests when the forum gets bigger. We'll just have to wait and see, but I am cautiously hopeful. At any rate, like I said, the purpose of this thread is for us to share our interests in history. I'll go first.
I am an early modernist through and through. I got into history through interest in the Reformation, which I still work with quite a lot, as you can't really avoid it in either the 16th or 17th centuries. My expertise is Restoration-era England, which covers the reigns of King Charles II (r. 1660-1685) and King James VII/II (r. 1685-1689). I'm specifically interested in the mechanics of the Restoration court, Anglican uniformity, the Popish Plot, Whigs vs. Tories, and most of all, the so-called "Glorious Revolution". I am currently doing research on religious sentiment in Charles' court during the 1670s, and I have a thesis in the works. It's awesome but also wholly terrifying that I'll actually produce a thesis by this time next year... Still, working with Restoration history is a dream of mine, and it's great to get to do it. Beyond the Restoration, I also enjoy early modern military history, Renaissance Italy (especially the Borgias, and anything to do with the Vatican), ancient Rome, the ancient Near East, and 19th-20th century Africa. I'd say, then, that my interests are pretty defined, besides three outliers there. However, I am also a theology major, so Rome and the ANE are of interest to me in that regard. Africa is just a fascination that I have. I don't plan on doing much with that interest, but it's good to learn about.

I've rambled quite enough here. I'd like to know what everyone else is interested in! Here's to a great year.
Cheers,
