Who should be remembered as the "better man"? Here is a quick rundown of the more notable moments of each's presidency: Theodore Roosevelt
- Pure Food and Drug Act - Hepburn Act - "Square Deal" - Peaceful negotiation of the Coal Strike of 1902 - Mediator in the Russo-Japanese War - Expanded National Protected Forests and Parks - Bolstered U.S. Navy - Published 47 books and many articles FDR
- "New Deal" - Presided over the repeal of Prohibition - Fair Labor Act of 1938 - Securities and Exchange Commission - National Labor Relations Act - Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation - Social Security - Initiated development of the Atomic Bomb - Led US out of Isolationism This a topic that fascinates me - and I'm always curious as to why people prefer one Roosevelt versus the other (I will admit that I am rather terribly biased towards one Roosevelt over the other and I often want to try to understand the stance for the opposite side). Can one look simply at political accomplishments and disregard personal life/mantras/foibles - how does looking at the character of each alter the impact of their "good done for society"? *Should* character be seen as a contributing factor when ranking historical figures? So please, cast your vote and also share why you favor Teddy or FDR!

Somehow I preffer Teddy more. Completely subjective reasons though. Btw, Roosevelt is a Dutch surname or ... ?

I've heard something about FDR trying to stage a coup to assume extraordinary powers. Do you know something about?

Roosevelt is a sort of anglicized version of the Dutch name Rosenvelt; the "American Roosevelts" were descended from Claes Maartenszen van Rosenvelt - an immigrant who settled in New Amsterdam (New York) in the 1600's.

I've heard something about FDR trying to stage a coup to assume extraordinary powers. Do you know something about? I know there was a coup to overthrow FDR - supposedly hatched by Wall Street bankers turned Fascist... Morgan and Mellon were implicated (interestingly enough, J. P. Morgan having been put in his place by Teddy Roosevelt during his presidency) in what is called the "Business Plot". It's hard to know if it ever was going to be acted upon - it does seem like it was organized with the intention of starting a coup to overthrow FDR.... but no one was ever prosecuted. Perhaps some have the theory that it was FDR's chance to try to impose martial law? I'm not sure...

It's really interesting, even more in U.S.A, a country that is recogniced by its political stability. going back to your initial question, It is really dificult to choose one. They were iconic people in their time. I'll go back with my vote and choose FDR. He was an important person in WWII dynamics, and He was really interested in maintain America (all the continent) democratic, away from Fuhrer's claws. He gave to Brazil, as a invite to allies side, a huge technology share and a large funding to develop our military industries.
