Since the advent of SARS Covid 19, live music has become a virtual experience. It's just not the same though. I mean, part of the magic of a live show is being in a room with 15, or 150, or 15,000 people who agree with you completely. But here's a short live show (recorded in a studio) by one of my favourite contemporary bands. I had the great good fortune to see them in Montreal before the lockdowns.

I had the chance to see these up-and-comers in the fall of 2019 and chose not to. Now I may never get the chance. (I've never heard of this Red Rocks amphitheater before. If I ever get to Colorado again in my life, I'm making this a must see attraction).

I can't believe this little session is 11 years old now. And I still haven't seen them live, but not for want of trying. They just never seem to play where I'm at when I'm there. Nice vocal trio that's hard to label. (I still think it looks like a Liam Neeson, Buddy Holly and Charlie Manson ensemble though...)

The Dakota Tavern in Toronto. If you go to Toronto and don't go to the Dakota, you've missed something special. I was actually looking for another clip when I stumbled upon this. Oh, Margo, I still love you.

Ah, here it is. As I was saying, the Dakota Tavern. "The Beauties" as they call themselves in this vid, were at one time the house band at the Dakota. They frequently got more ovations and demand for encores than the headliner acts. Be sure to order the mint julep. It's over-priced, but they do it well....

The best thing about America is PBS, and the best thing about PBS is NPR, and the best thing about NPR is tiny desk concerts. This was a short-lived duo, but damn they could sing.

I was paying extra attention to the end credits on the movie "Once Upon A Time In Mexico" because I wanted to find this song. Surprisingly, it was written by Robert Rodriguez (the writer, producer and director of the film) and sung by Salma Hayak. Who knew. Here's a lovely live rendition by not Salma Hayak. Siente Mi Amor (Feel My Love)

On Robert Rodriguez: It seems when he's not writing, producing and directing his own movies, he's recording music and touring with his band "Chingon". Multi-talented over-achievers make me feel so inadequate.

In the summer of 1975, my parents took me to Atlanta, GA. We stayed at the Hyatt downtown. During our stay, a few blocks away a band I had never heard of (Hey, I was 11) was playing at the Omni Theater. I didn't see them, but they were getting a lot of air play on the local radio station and I recall not being able to stop from snapping my fingers and tapping my foot. I do remember meeting their fans as they were assembling for the concert and having their excitement rub off on me. Despite the (modern) controversy of their band logo, I've been a huge fan ever since. Sadly, the key members, including the irreplaceable vocalist would be dead in an air crash before I ever got to see them. This performance recorded almost a year to the day later.

And speaking of Atlanta, this song pretty much sums up how I've felt about it ever since that time....
