Here, in Romania, there's an old wives' tale, or if you will, tradition, that you should wear red undies on New Year's, so as to have good luck all through the next year. It's aimed particularly at women, with the legend claiming that if you wear red undergarments, you will meet your true love during the year to come. Now, I'm not here to discuss the reliability of this one - just wondering if there are any peculiar/interesting traditions for New Year's, where you're from? By the way, Happy New Year! Here's to a better 2021 (not that 2020 puts up much competition!)

Apart from kissing total strangers at midnight I can't think of any quirky traditions here in Canada. Also, I think we all owe 2019 a big apology for all the terrible things we said about it...

Every New Year's Eve at midnight we have to listen to this song, the Silvester's Kiss. It's our Auld Lang Syne, if you will. It's a nice song although the lyrics are a bit odd and their origina and true meaning have become a bit of a legend of their own. Otherwise we're quite vanilla in Slovenia. The usual stuff - champagne, fireworks and kisses.

In Philadelphia, they've been having the Mummer's Parade every New Years Day since the 1700's. They performed for the British while they occupied the City during the Revolutionary War.
The costumes are outrageously ornate - they have different divisions including string bands...
The costumes/routines would sometimes poke fun at different targets (often political) so it was outlawed during parts of the 1800's...
I went downtown one year for NYE and the parade... a lot of fun... and a lot of drinking. 🤣 Most people show up drunk from the night before.
