Squinting at this... the hawkish nose makes me think it's he-who-shall-not-be-named, or William of Orange. But the clothing is too festive... Huh. Right church, wrong pew. It is a picture of the last Spanish governor of Gibraltar, Diego de Salinas, painted by Augusto Ferrer-Dalmau. The painting is titled "el ultimo de gibraltar" (The Last of Gibraltar) and presumably shows the governor having a last look see before handing it over to perfidious Albion.

Jilted wife. Exotic dancer. Courtesan. Spy. Margaretha Geertruida MacLeod - better known to history under her stage name of "Mata Hari". A colourized shot from her 1906 glamour set, and her 1917 French police mugshot. Although the evidence against her was almost non-existent, MacLeod admitted under oath she received 20,000 Francs from the Germans to spy for them, though she claimed not to have told them anything. So, sad as her story is, the outcome was logical. She was executed by firing squad .
