Hello all! Thank you very much for visiting -- or perhaps, even joining -- The History Room. I decided to create THR with my friends, since we felt there was a serious need for a good history forum that was educational and professional, but at the same time, maintained a sense of camaraderie. Please enjoy your stay here! I look forward to what everyone has to say. On to the more boring bit...
I am, of course, Duchess of York, but call me as you like. Depending on my avatar, my username pays homage to either Anne Hyde or Maria of Modena, both of them Duchesses of York in the reign of Charles II. I'm a third year honours history student, specialising in the reigns of Charles II and James II (1660-1689). I'm especially interested in the political, religious, and social atmosphere of England at the time. I am also a theological studies student, focussed on Church history up until 1700 or so, and the Catholic Church in post-Reformation England. By consequence, you'll most likely find me in the British Isles subforum.
I really do not like talking about myself... So, I've said a bit of a piece there. Hopefully it's sufficient, and I can't wait to see what everyone has to contribute!

As always, glad to be starting out on this venture with you. We've turned out a rather nice looking forum I must say. Here's to many years!

I concur, it's a beautiful site and I look forward to making it a virtual home for like-minded vagabonds with an interest in history. It was a bold move making this forum and it certainly seems to be paying off 😎
