Bit late to the party, but hey, quarantine still ain't over, so I figure what the hell, right? Just for the record, I'd rather not spend quarantine at all, if you catch my drift. Also, I can't be bothered to learn our present local restrictions, so I'll just have to see how many folks I come up with.
Who would I spend quarantine with?
First up,
Dylan Thomas, my all-time favorite poet and general good sport. A man known for his immense alcoholic excesses, but a highly sensible and emotive poet, not to mention probably the best writer I've ever read, in my not-at-all-humble opinion. Mind you, might be a bit difficult to catch on when quarantine had ended, what with all the choice beverages.
Next, I'll offer up a hugely unpopular
Cesare Borgia. Say what you will about the man, but to me, he has always been a
fascinating figure, and I would love to spend some time with him. I mean, imagine how much you could
learn about people from this one man. Note to self -
don't forget to pack the garrote. just in case.
Another gentleman I'd sit at my table during quarantine would be
Sigmund Freud. As an amateur student of psychology, I would love to have him just scare the hell out of all my other guests with his frighteningly accurate quips. Well, until he turns his psychoanalytic eye on me and I eventually collapse in a pool of my own abject despair.
Right, moving on.
I'd also invite to my little historic pandemic getaway the Romanian poet
Nichita Stanescu, the greatest one in our country, or at least
I think so. Another notorious drinker (do you see where this is going?), but also a fantastically gifted writer and a fierce patriot. So overall, not too bad, I'd say.
Lastly, since I saw someone mentioned Audrey Hepburn, I think we can safely include
Marlon Brando as a historic figure, so yeah, he's coming, too. And not just because of the fantastic acting or the good looks, but because his autobiography was one of the nicest books I've read all year.
Yes, my list is exclusively male. No, you can't just drop by. Sorry and see you in 2021
PS: Really cool thread idea!
